ACCU-DART Warehouse Management System Reduces Shipping & Receiving Time

Case Study: Latin American Distributors (LADI)

Microtask and ACCU-DART collaborate to implement a state-of-the-art warehouse management system for a major importer and distributor.

Since its inception in 1984, New Jersey-based Latin American Distributors, Inc. (LADI) has evolved into a major importer and wholesale distributor serving Latino communities across the United States. This family-owned and -operated business sources merchandise such as household and beauty products, cookware, pharmaceuticals and vitamins from Latin American countries and offers them through well-known retail outlets such as Shop-Rite.

They also service many recognized supermarkets in northern New Jersey including Western Beef, Food Bazaar, Supremo, C-Town, Bravo, Compare, Met Food, Associated and Fine Fare.

Outdated, Inefficient Warehouse Management System Prompts Call for Automation

Since the mid-1990s, Microtask Consulting, Inc. (www.microtask.net), an AccountMate Software reseller and developer, has provided IT consulting services to Latin American Distributors and earned their trust in designing and implementing efficient business systems.

When LADI’s management team became frustrated with growing inefficiencies in their outdated, manual warehouse management system, they turned to Microtask.

LADI’s sales manager, Antonio Bomnin Jr., explained:

“We need a more efficient way to manage our fast-growing volume of inventory. The warehouse uses a manual tracking system that needs ‘pickers’ to pull the products from inventory and two dedicated ‘order checkers’ who physically double check the pickers' work. Needless to say this is a highly inefficient workflow which is slowing the shipping process.”

He further described challenges with PO receipts, shipping orders, RMA receipts, and overwhelming clerical workload caused by manual data entry.

ACCU-DART System Converts Warehouse Managers Into Believers

The Microtask team determined that ACCU-DART, developed by Executive Concepts Inc., offered the best solution — a mobile, real-time inventory control system proven to automate warehouse processes and dramatically improve productivity.

ACCU-DART is designed for warehouse staff who need to receive purchase orders, pack sales orders, or process RMAs. Its simple interface validates items directly from the accounting system and provides instant access to the latest inventory data.

Using radio-frequency scanners, warehouse staff can:

  • scan items quickly

  • validate each item automatically

  • check bin levels

  • update the accounting system in real time

This reduces errors, speeds up warehouse processes, and gives clerical staff immediate access to posted data.

ACCU-DART — Just Four Easy Steps

  1. Scan the Sales Order, Purchase Order, or RMA number.

  2. Scan the item — ACCU-DART validates it against the order.

  3. Review all scanned items for accuracy.

  4. Post — update the accounting system instantly.

Luis Leon of Microtask recalled:

“After a brief training session, we set the warehouse staff loose with their new devices and it was a thing of beauty to observe the ease and speed with which they were able to process orders.”

Staff quickly embraced the system, and LADI rolled out ACCU-DART warehouse-wide.

Customized Enhancements for LADI’s Workflows

Additional modifications allowed warehouse staff to validate customer- and item-specific details as needed. Custom reports on the scanner devices enabled warehouse employees to:

  • review PO receipts

  • review RMA receipts

  • review Sales Order packing

  • view summary and detailed reports

  • post directly from the handheld device

On-the-spot synchronization provided clerical staff with real-time access to order information and accelerated LADI’s order processing capabilities.

LADI Management and Staff Agree — ACCU-DART Hits the Mark

After years of manual order entry, LADI’s staff have embraced the accuracy, speed, and simplicity of ACCU-DART.

Accuracy improvements include:

  • near-perfect item validation

  • prevention of over-receipts in PO and RMA workflows

  • validation of customer purchase history before issuing credits

  • improved bin tracking via the Bin Movement function

  • faster cycle counts and physical inventories

Antonio Bomnin Jr. reported:

“All the clerical manual input time has been eliminated. 100 to 200 orders per day used to be entered manually and with the ACCU-DART system in place, the time to process these orders has been reduced! Staff is now free to help out with other parts of the business.”

With ACCU-DART in place, LADI has been able to grow without hiring additional warehouse or clerical staff.
